Otters Chasing A Butterfly
For Jade

I had surgery on my foot yesterday at about 9 in the morning. It went well, I am alive and drugged.
Every doctor and nurse that helped me did a great job and kept the mood light. They even laughed at my lame jokes that I would say to keep my mind off of things. Their jokes were better, bastards.
When it was time to get my IV into my hand I let a student do it. I don’t understand why some people won’t let a student do it. How else will they learn. She got it on the first try and did a wonderful job!
While my mom and I were waiting for doctors to come talk to us, Jared Big Bear John texted me. He texted me at the perfect moment because I needed someone to talk to other than my mom. We made light of the note of the surgery saying they should have put Beer in my IV. I told him it was clear so it was probably Vodka.
My anesthesiologist was from Slovakia and his name is Boras. I like that name. I think I may name my dog or a child Boras. He was funny, quirky and serious at the same time. Reminds me of Lars a lot! He kept making jokes and I kept spitting them back. After the surgery he kept touching my toes which was nice but I know he was doing it to see if things were working the way they should be.
When they were walking me to the surgery room I was nervous but when I walked into the actual room, oh boy I got even more nervous. Boras was talking to me about what was going to happen with the anesthesia and how there were a few things I was going to see and do before I fell asleep. Yeah, I didn’t do any of that. The first one went in, I felt the burning and I was out. The next thing I knew I was up in a recovery room under extreme pain. I have a huge pain tolerance and if anyone sees me crying silently it’s because I am in pain. they gave me so much that they started refusing to give me more. I lost a bone people. I also gave the nurses shit about the fact that I wasn’t in bed 9. They asked why and I responded with “Number 9 is Matt Cullen’s old number at SCSU. I love him.”
Back with my mom I was all social and happy and making jokes. I guess I am a good drugged up person after surgery. But her and I quickly found out that when it’s time to leave you had better let me go at my own pace or I snap. There were a few times that she wanted to move a little faster by helping me and I kind of scolded her. Sorry ma. When we were leaving I had to use the bathroom, well I tried and it didn’t work. The nurses told me someone had to be in there with me so I told my mom to come in. I sort of screamed “Ma, you get to see my cooter!” hahaha I made the nurses laugh quite a bit.
Now I’m at home the next day, drugged up and typing horribly. My toes are asleep so much that they hurt. But I must keep the blood flow away from my foot. I know later today my mom is going to take me to Wilson Avenue Salon so I can get my MOP hair products that Andi ordered just for me.
Also Teqe has not left my side yet. She is all sad at my side and when I get up to move around she gets super excited!
